DIRECTOR AND ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
As a Director and individual
Every project has its own essence. And it is my job to bring that essence to life in the most authentic way. And when I mean authentic, I mean finding that half/way relationship between the fundamentals of the main idea, the heart of the project and the objective of it. Sometimes it is clear during the pre-production stage, sometimes it can be clear at the first coffee talking meeting between the producer, showrunner, manager and the Director, and sometimes it gets clear as we are rolling. Depending on the kind of project, of course.
As an Assistant Director
Now I am in charge of making the machine work at its perfection, with the proper speed and oil. So that it runs smoothly and becomes an efficient workflow. You could say that I become the heart of the project, the third and fourth arm that holds Direction and Production.
Some of the tasks I’ve encountered as an AD:
Manage the technical CREW
Be the communication channel between the Director and Actors & Crew
Confirm shooting plans with the planner and production
List the actors, extras and extras
Solve any of their concerns regarding dates, scenes and needs
Distribute actions to extras behind the main action
Monitor the status of the SETS that continue in the plan
Be the Director on set
Collaborate with maintaining a positive spirit on set and outside of it
Collaborate with compliance with biosafety protocols
Be behind the export, printing and delivering of the paperwork for the crew
Make a daily management report.
Share any news/changes with all areas
Supervise their arrivals on location, that they change and get ready for SET
Coordinate EXTRAS offset and onset with agency
Solve any doubt of the CREW about the recording plan
Work the floor between shots
Monitor CAST, both Main, Secondary, Figurants. (Sometimes receive calls 2am, 3am)
